The water supply for Southern California is dependent upon two sources, the Colorado River and the Sacramento Delta. Both are finite sources, yet the population in Southern California is growing rapidly. As such, it is important to consider the future of our water supply and the water cycle as sources become limited for consumption due to use, contamination, and replenishment. Such considerations bring up questions regarding the sustainability of the H2O cycle.

The development of numerous alternative fuel vehicles has accelerated following recent spikes in petroleum prices and increased attention on global warming and U.S. energy independence. Some vehicles are powered by a single alternative fuel, such as battery-stored electricity, hydrogen, natural gases, ethanol, or biodiesel, while other “hybrid” vehicles combine two or more fuel technologies in a single vehicle. Which technologies have the greatest promise of widespread adoption?
