Bryan Bjorndal

President and CEO of Assure Controls

Mr. Bjorndal is a seasoned executive and innovator with extensive experience in the development and commercialization of technologies. He founded Assure Controls, a product development and innovation-marketing company with specialized measurement technology and expertise used in critical environment detection and monitoring applications.

Mr. Bjorndal has held senior level company management positions in both public and private companies. His prior responsibilities have included general management, engineering design, product development, manufacturing, and marketing and sales in companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Puritan-Bennett, BioQ, and Genetronics. This background includes the development and commercialization of over 20 advanced biophysical medical products through the highly regulated and complex US Food and Drug Administration.

Mr. Bjorndal holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Santa Clara University and studied at the University of California, Berkeley’s Bodega Marine Laboratory.  Bryan has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Oregon. He served as a Marine Researcher for the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources as a member of the United States Peace Corps in the Philippines.

He is the principal investigator on the company’s Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with Space and Naval Warfare Systems (SPAWAR) research facilities in San Diego, California.

Bryan was also the principal investigator on projects from the Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT). The CCAT program is supported by Congress and funded through the Office of Naval Research, and is designed to fast track the commercialization of new innovative technologies that meet key technology needs and requirements for the Department of Defense.

In March 2006, Mr. Bjorndal presented at the International World’s Best Technology Convention and won “Gold Trophy, Best of Show”, Dallas, Texas.

In 2007, the United States Environmental Protection Agency added QwikLite™ technology to the technical descriptions listed in the EPA’s Technology Innovation Program as one of the “Measurement and Monitoring Technologies for the 21st Century”.

In May 2008, Assure Controls received the National Award, Excellence in Technology Transfer and Commercialization from the 700 member Federal Laboratory Consortium.

Mr. Bjorndal is an active member of the Society for Environmental Toxicity and Chemistry (SETAC) and the Marine Technology Society. Mr. Bjorndal also serves on the board of directors for the San Diego Region’s CleanTECH industry association; steering strategies for the Science and Technology Committee and member of the industry Advocacy Committee.

Over the last year, Bryan has had speaking engagements at Peking University, Hong Kong University, San Diego State University, University of California San Diego, Caltech, and California EPA; serving on panels or providing lectures on water quality, technology transfer, and emerging technology solutions for environmental assessment.
